CalWORKs Work-Study Program
The CalWORKs work-study program is a subsidized funded program designed to place CalWORKs students on an on-campus or off-campus employment. The goals of the work-study program are to assist eligible CalWORKs students gain valuable experience that will lead to long-term, meaningful employment and allow them to achieve economic self-sufficiency after graduation.
There is currently a waiting list for the 24-25 academic year. However, we encourage you to submit an application in case an opportunity becomes available.
To be eligible, students must meet the requirements outlined below:
- Must be a GAIN participant and cash-aid recipient for yourself and at least one child
- Must be eligible to receive cash-aid for the duration of the semester or academic year
- Registered in at least 6 units approved by a CalWORKs counselor
- Class schedule must match the CalWORKs approved comprehensive student education plan (SEP), which is aligned with GAIN's approved major
- Must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher
When submitting a work-study application, students must include the following documents:
- Verification of benefits (VOB) from GAIN service worker
- Resume
- Class schedule
- Comprehensive student educational plan (SEP)
