Articulation for Students

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process by which one college matches its courses to courses at another college. Articulation ensures that courses completed at one college will not have to be repeated after transferring to another college. An Articulation Agreements is an official agreement that specifies courses which are comparable to, or acceptable in lieu of, requirements at the transfer college or university. By completing an articulated course, Compton students may satisfy university admission, general education, lower-division major preparation and/or graduation requirements, prior to transfer.

Compton College has articulation agreements with the University of California (UC), the California State University (CSU) and private universities; review Compton College Articulation Agreements for more details about Compton's articulation agreements.

If you are interested in transferring from Compton College to a four-year university, it is highly recommended that you meet with a Compton College Counselor and become familiar with services and support provided by the Transfer & Career Center.

Associate Degrees for Transfer

  • What are ADTs?

    The Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), also known as the Degree with a Guarantee, is a transfer pathway articulated between California Community Colleges (CCC) and the California State University (CSU). There are two types of ADTs: an Associate in Art for Transfer (AA-T) and an Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T). Students graduating from a CCC, such as Compton College (CC), with an Associate in Art for Transfer (AA-T) or an Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) are guaranteed admission into the CSU system (but not a specific campus or major), with junior standing when transferring into a similar CSU Bachelor Major.

  • Transfer Benefits of ADTs
    • Guaranteed admission into one of the 23 CSU campuses (no specific campus or major)
    • 0.1 GPA increase when applying for transfer to the CSU (Example: 3.5 thru 3.6)
    • Admissions to the CSU with junior standing
    • Completion of a bachelor's degree with no more than 120 semester units - 60 units at Compton College (about 2 years, if attending full-time) and 60 units at the CSU
    Note: some CSUs offer additional benefits for completing an ADT; contact the university for details.

    To receive all the above benefits of the ADT when transferring to a CSU, Compton College students must:
    • Complete a total of 60 semester CSU Transferable Units which includes:
    • All ADT Major course requirements listed in the College Catalog with a grade of "C" or higher.
    • Completion of either the California State University General Education-Breadth (CSU GE) or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) General Education requirements, as noted in the College Catalog.
    • Additional CSU Elective units: If needed to reach 60 units.
    • Apply to a CSU major that is "deemed similar" to your Compton College ADT Major/Program of Study and declare the ADT on the CSU application. Note: The Transfer Center yearly hosts application workshops during the CSU (and University of California) application filing period (October - November). It is highly recommended that you attend one of these sessions to ensure that you accurately list your Compton College ADT. If your ADT is not properly listed on the CSU application, you will not receive the transfer benefits of the ADT.
    • Apply for graduation at Compton College no later than the term listed below, based on the CSU admissions application term

Compton College Articulation Agreements

An articulation agreement (Agreement) is an agreement between two college campuses that ensures the transferability of courses to meet major and general education requirements. Compton College maintains the following Agreements.

  • California State University (CSU) & University of California (UC)

    Articulation agreements between Compton College (CC) and the UC and CSU campuses can be found at ASSIST (www.assist.org)

  • Private/Out of State Universities

    Compton College (CC) maintains articulation agreements with local private universities and some out of state universities. These agreements let you know which courses completed at CC will satisfy general education and major preparation requirements at the private university. If an agreement is in place, this means that the comparable courses listed as part of the agreement will not have to be completed after transfer. Some private universities offer more generalized transfer agreements, which do not pertain to specific courses completed at CC, but rather to how many units are completed, or if an associate degree/degree for transfer has been earned. It is important to note that each college or university has its own unique requirements for admission which must be met and may be part of an established agreement.

    The Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) represents some of California's independent, nonprofit colleges and universities. Together, these institutions make up the Independent California Colleges and Universities sector (ICCU).

    The AICCU ADT Transfer Guarantee is the Independent California College and University (ICCU) sector's adaptation of the ADT pathway. If an ADT transfer student meets all the requirements of admission to a participating institution, admission is guaranteed to that college.

    The ADT (AA-T/AS-T) Commitment is:
    - Guaranteed admission for ADT students meeting admission requirements;
    - Guarantees a minimum of 60 semester/90 quarter units will transfer;
    - Guarantees the student starts with junior standing.
    - Full list of AICCU ADT Participating Institutions and majors accepted
