Armida Ramirez
Armida Ramirez is a 2019 Compton College Presidential Scholar. She graduated with
an associate degree in June 2019 and a notable 4.0 cumulative GPA. She is a nursing
major who plans to continue her studies at Compton College in the Nursing Program.
Ramirez is a first-generation college student who enrolled at Compton College at the
age of 26 while also caring for her two children, maintaining a high GPA, and working
fulltime. She is from an immigrant family where her parents always believed in work
before education. Upon graduation from high school in 2018, she was accepted at three
universities including USC, however, personal barriers kept her from enrolling. She
now understands what a privilege it is to attend college. "Compton College not only
allows you to see education as a pathway to uplift those out of poverty but also toward
upward social mobility," said Ramirez. "Thank you, Compton College, for all you have
done for me and my fellow students."
