Xavier Francisco Gutierrez - Student Success

Xavier Francisco Gutierrez

Xavier Francisco Gutiérrez

Xavier Francisco Gutierrez graduated from Compton College in June 2019 with several associate degrees: an associate of arts degree in general studies with an emphasis in culture and communication, and two associate of science degrees for transfer in business administration and Spanish. He will be attending the University of California, Berkeley in fall 2019 as a Spanish major.

He is the first person in his immediate family, as well as 30 plus cousins, to graduate college. Gutierrez aspires to be a college professor and hopes to return to his community to teach and motivate community college students to succeed in higher education. At Compton College, he says he gained more passion and commitment to be prosperous in life.

To hone his leadership skills, he joined Compton College's student government, eventually becoming Associated Student Body (ASB) president. During his term as ASB president, he helped plan and execute several student services events including celebrations for diversity heritage months and mental health awareness. "As a first-generation Chicano, I will continue to live by these words: !Si se puede! (Yes, we can!)" said Gutierrez.
